Choosing a word of the year is one of my favorite things! The words I choose as my theme for the year always have a profound impact on my life. I’ve wrote about my experiences with my previous two words here and here . You can also read about the concept of Ali Edwards’ One Little Word project here .
My 2018 word of the year is ….. drum roll …. SHAKE.
Before I explain why I chose this word, let me say that I love routines and consistency. I like to follow the plan and to figure out how all the puzzle pieces of my life fit together. I mean, I have a blog about planners; this probably isn’t a surprise.
Over the last couple months, I’ve been thinking a lot about my big, long term goals. One night a few weeks ago, I realized that to really make progress on these big goals I needed to shake things up and make some big changes.
I want to SHAKE THINGS UP when they’re not working out. To quote the great queen of country Reba McEntire, “when the deck is stacked against me, I just play a different game.” I spend a lot of time making tiny tweaks and adjustments to things that should be getting major overhauls, so this year I want to learn when it’s time to shake things up and change the game. This applies to both big things — like finances — and small things — like my exercise routine.
I want to SHAKE THINGS OFF instead of dwelling on failures. I want to stop dwelling on things I can’t change, and instead focus on moving forward.
I want to SHAKE THINGS OUT. I feel like I’ve been stuck in a rut in several areas of my life, so this year I want to shake things out and see which of those are actually routines that I love and want to keep, and which things I’m doing out of habit.
I’m so excited to see where this word takes me! It’s big and scary, but I think it’s going to lead to great places. Do you have a word for 2018? Let me know what it is in the comments.
